At Le Quadrilatère, the exhibition is based around large-format paintings in a dialogue with a contemporary scenography. The pictorial themes such as religious painting, icons of virtue, allegory, têtes d’expression and the portraits of men shed light on the artistic specificities of the centres of baroque.

Italian Hours offers a unique insight into public collections of Italian paintings conserved in the museums and churches of Picardy. Inspired by Henry James (1843-1916), this operation borrows its title from a compilation in which the author describes the monuments and the artists of the Italian peninsula with both fascination and pertinence.
With a presentation across four different towns - Amiens, Chantilly, Beauvais et Compiègne – of the centres of artistic creation, from Turin to Naples and from the 14th to the 18th century, Italian Hours offers a double invitation for a voyage through time and space. Two hundred and thirty-six paintings loaned by eleven museums and eleven churches will allow viewers to appreciate the size and the quality of the collections in Picardy via use of a chronological pathways through the different works.

NATURALISM AND THE BAROQUE (17th Century) BEAUVAIS, MUDO-MUSÉE DE L’OISE & LE QUADRILATÈRE | 27th APRIL – 17th September
17th-century Italian painting is widely represented in Beauvais. MUDO-Musée de l’Oise and Le Quadrilatère offer an exhibition of more than 80 paintings, shared between the two sites. The public has an opportunity to take a walk through the Italian peninsula, exploring the Seicento schools, from Bologna to Naples.
MUDO presents the influence of Caravaggio on the artists of the period via paintings of landscapes and historical scenes and underlines the importance of the artist’s dramaturgy with the spectacular settings he depicts.
The exhibition is aimed at the entirety of the general public. It will run alongside a cultural programme, innovative educational operations and places emphasis on an experience which promotes sensitivity to the various works of art. An exceptional invitation to rediscover an artistic heritage in relation to contemporary creation.

The temporary exhibition rooms do not have disabled access. The permanent collections in the Palais Renaissance, however, do have disabled access.
